CANADEM is a non-profit agency dedicated to advancing international peace and security through the recruitment, screening, promotion and rapid mobilization of Canadian expertise. At its core is the roster of 40,000+ screened experts skilled in international humanitarian operations and development work.
 
CANADEM provides rostering services in the areas of international humanitarian, peace and security operations, serving UN agencies and various governments and international non-government organizations.
 
We are looking for a dynamic program officer with previous international experience and knowledge of international relations more specifically humanitarian and development issues for our expanded HQ team.
 
Main tasks:
 
  • Actively engage in deploying CANADEM experts to the international field missions including but not limited to:
  • liaison with consultants deployed.
  • liaison as required with government departments and international agencies involved in project.
  • contract writing in consultation with other CANADEM staff.
  • deployment coordination/procurement (flights, insurance, equipment, visas, etc.).
  • receiving, reviewing and forwarding invoice timesheets, expense reports and other financial documents to CANADEM’s Financial Division, and completion of other post-mission administrative tasks.
  • Drafting proposals, reports, and other documents as required.
  • Monitoring budgets in consultation with the Financial Division.
  • Ongoing awareness of project requirements and progress.
 
Other duties will include:
  • Supporting the Roster unit as required in undertaking key searches in the CANADEM database for appropriate candidates for particular operations or posts, and evaluating candidates to create agency short-lists.
  • Supporting the Field Operations unit in the collection of CANADEM expert’s documents and reports (mid-mission, end-of-mission follow up, performance evaluation reports, etc.).
  • Supporting the financial administration of all field programming in consultation and coordination with CANADEM's Financial Division.
 
Other tasks may be assigned in consultation with the supervisor.
           
- responding quickly to requests from end users for appropriate candidates and evaluating candidates to create agency short-lists.
- ensuring ongoing and effective communication/liaison with CANADEM registrants.
- assisting in the screening of registrants.
- publicity/recruitment, screening, referral, and liaison between international agencies and CANADEM registrants.
- developing / expanding marketing tools to create more opportunities for CANADEM registrants (e.g. CANADEM job postings webpage)
- developing / expanding advanced screening tools

Qualifications:
 
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Flexible, adaptable able to deal with a fast-paced, deadline driven, ever-changing environment
- Knowledge, and preferably contacts within, the Canadian and international peacebuilding, governance, human rights or human security community (non-governmental and governmental).
- Specific knowledge of working with the UN and other intergovernmental organizations is an asset.
- University degree in international relations, political affairs, or other relevant degree with a focus on conflict prevention, human security or other relevant area.
- Minimum 2-3 years work experience in an NGO, government department, multilateral organization or other relevant agency, including some international work.
- Excellent computer skills (Word or, Excel, Access or other database software or the ability to learn and manipulate a database, and understand relational database software).
- Good cross-cultural communication skills.
